an ode to brexit

Brexit plans have swept the nation

Bit I foresee a complication

Who is correct and who is not?

Who to believe from all this lot?

Vote stay and we’re staying in

You can stay a European

Vote leave and you must watch out

The UK will have no clout.

But what of all the experts’ reports?

Were they right or all for nought?

As we stumble on and on

Waiting for it to be done

Who can say who is right?

Each side believes, with all its might

They are right, their view is best

We must stay in with all the rest

We must pull out and make an exit

If we wish to have a Brexit.

Leave the nest, you’re on your own

The EU claims, it’s not the same

As to reject the Euro

Preferring Banksy to Juan Miro.

At end of day it’s clear to see

Neither knows if EU-free

Old Blighty will its power recover

Or wither like an agèd mother

Who's sired her brood ‘nd taught them well

How to choose twixt heav’n ‘nd hell

As if it was a simple choice

Cos if it was we could rejoice

But global stuff has taken over

The world no longer ends at Dover.

We are a single global market

Improvin’ margins is the target.

How was it that we lost our way?

That voters when they’ve had their say

Did so so poorly misinformed

That final outcomes were deformed?

In. Out. What really matters

Isn’t headlines which us batters

But how we can agree to change

Our countries’ lives to rearrange

Not chasing growth at any cost

Without a thought for what we’ve lost.

Maybe we’d be better in

Who’s to say, but let’s begin

To listen to the folks who voted

Support the mandate thus promoted

So we are out, ‘twas the shout

We don’t stay in we’re moving out

We all had votes, both you and me

Why not trust democracy?
