party time the barriers thinning

The balloons, the food, the table ready

A glass of red my nerves to steady.

Guests are running little late

Just relax, all looks great.

Doorbell chimes, shadows moving

Welcome hugs and welcome schmoozing.

Chit chat here and chatting there

Warming up the atmosphere.

Glass of bubbly, glass of beer;

Start to feel the party cheer.

Jokes and banter take front stage

Laughs and smiles as folk engage.

Crisps and snacks fill a gap

As food is served to hunger zap.

Guests are talking with much more verve

‘Tis a conversational hors d’oeuvre.

Food is chomped, chewed and savoured

Jokes and jests not unlaboured.

Table talk and now in pairs

Party jokes all unfurled.

Puds and treats now appear

Bringing ooohs and more cheer.

Eating over, pace it quickens

Music switched, party thickens.

Vogueing, moves to catch the beat

Feelings merged, feelings meet.

From one to many, minds a melding

A smorgasbord of passions welding.

Folk start bonding, passions rising,

Some a little more surprising.

Music changes, dancing rhythms

Party vibes, cool algorithms.

Thoughts intense and very wise

Feelings bolder, emotional highs.

Music changes gear once more

Chilling down the party corps.

Search is on for hidden booze

Queues start forming for the loos.

Stragglers searching for their coats

Couples sowing their wild oats.

Party thinning, sleeping folk

Still guests laughing at a joke.

Mood is tender as sun it rises

Breakfast smells the guests’ surprises.

Bacon sarnies, coffee, tea

In the daylight mayhem see

Ashtrays filled up to the edge

Glasses, cups, on every ledge.

Brekkie chat and goodbye hugs

Party’s over, collecting drugs.

New day, new friends, new beginnings

Party time the barriers thinning.
